Thank you for your interest in serving on CARA's Board of Directors. Please print out this form and mail it to CARA at the address below. You can also e-mail your application information to info@cara-seattle.org. Agency Mission CARA increases community action to subvert rape, abuse, and oppression. We mobilize communities to create liberation through critical dialogue and action, and to foster support, safety, and self-determination. Anti-Discrimination Policy CARA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, gender, age, national origin, citizenship, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation, or the presence of any sensory, physical, or mental disability, in any aspects of agency operation, including provision of services, employment, Board membership and volunteer inclusion. Board of Directors Membership Policy Statement The Board of Directors will be made up of diverse members of the community, with a variety of backgrounds. Outreach to the activist members of CARA and to participants in all CARA's programs is a crucial part of the Board recruitment process. Community Action Teams (which act as community advisory groups) may choose a representative to serve on the Board of Directors. We particularly encourage survivors, youth, lesbian/gay/bisexual/trans folks, people of color, and people with disabilities to become actively involved in CARA. Because our mission is to support the empowerment of survivors, we do not allow batterers or perpetrators to serve on the Board of Directors. We ask all applicants to respect this position. General Board Membership Guidelines Board Membership responsibilities include: Board trainings, bi-monthly Board meetings (may change eventually to monthly), committee participation, and fundraising activities.
