CARA is hosting the Nat Turner Teach-In 2007 founded by CARA’s Black People’s Project. This is the 4th year for the Nat Turner Teach-In. Taught by local Seattle activists and in the tradition of the one room schoolhouse, The Nat Turner Teach-In is a day long event for people of color to explore historical moments and movements of Black resistance to enslavement in honor of the Nat Turner slave rebellion (August 22, 1831).
The daytime schedule for Nat Turner Teach-In includes the following sessions on:
- Acts of Slave Resistance by Africans in America
- Subversive Black Humor
- Haitian Revolutions & Coup de Tats: From Boukman to Aristide
- Solidarity between Black and Chicano Freedom Movements, Part II
- Ethnography of a Slave Song
