CARA finds a Fiscal Sponsor

First of all, what is a fiscal sponsor?

When we decided to start a new agency, we realized that we needed 501(c)3 (tax deferred nonprofit) status immediately in order to accept funding and begin offering services. It can take up to a year to obtain this status, and that wasn't soon enough for us. We began looking for other options. The best one we found was to join forces with an existing 501(c)3 group - one that could accept funding for us and allow us to get this new agency up and running as soon as possible.

After speaking with some amazing organizations, we found the best fit with Gay Community Social Services. GCSS has been doing fiscal sponsorship for nearly 30 years. Currently, they are sponsoring such projects as the Northwest Lesbian and Gay History Project, the Lesbian Cancer Project, and United Front Against Fascism.

We're excited to announce this new relationship with GCSS, and look forward to offering sexual assault community outreach and support group services soon. Our next steps include finding office space and beginning the process of hiring a staff to do program management and outreach. We'll keep you updated on our progress.
